Day 2

We meet up Homebike dudes from Korea, started exploring Brooklyn, getting coffees at 3 different spots(OSLO, The Birch, Whynot Coffee) and eating burgers and ramen. This is my favorite time, everytime i visit NY for Red Hook Crit, chill ride and sightseeing. Brooklyn is very attractive city in NY. I wish we have that many good coffee spot in CA.

It was a Sunday, a day after the Red Hook Crit No.9. We pretty much had a free time to chill, whatever we can do. Since my partners were visiting the US for the first time, I took them to Time Square, which is one of the must stop for the tourists. It’s been a year for me to visit NY as well. Tried to tour around Manhattan and Brooklyn. We ended up hangout at some random bar near our Airbnb place and we had great time. Once we got back to our place, we picked up some beers for the last day. Jae oh ended up getting two Four Locos and he passed out. That was the best part!!!!

I think this was the biggest women’s field on fixed crit I’ve ever seen since i started cycling, that means there’re more women racers attended Red Hook Crit this year than last year. It’s amazing to see how fast female racers growing every year, which is good news for all of us. And yes! Asia and Jessy quailed for women’s final.

Last time I met the Korean gang was last November when i visited Korea. They run a bike shop named HOME BIKE in Korea and those two, Sei Haeng and Duck Ho are race-holics. This time, they flew over to US to attend the biggest fixed gear criterium in the world. I had no doubt that they had epic experience while their trip here. Can’t wait to see them in winter.

We built up our bikes and riding around the town to feel Brooklyn. Nemo suggested me to go Father Knows Best where Chris(one of the nicest dude I’ve met in NY) works. They have nice back yard where you can park your bikes and, yeah they have hammock back there as well. The food and the trip coffee we had was great too. We rode around Red Hook and ended up going to RHC pre party at Deluxe Cycles again. It was completely packed and it was hard for me to breath in there. Though, it was great to meeting new cyclists living in different city. And that pizza we had after the pre party was da bomb!!

On 2nd day morning, I was searching online for a bike shop around to get Jerry a lock ring. I hit up my friend Nemo and he got me some cool spots we should check out, including one of the bike shops called Deluxe Bicycles. Jerry, Izzy and I were riding around the street and we couldn’t find any bike shop around that address. Well, that was the first time I’ve seen a bike shop located in 2nd floor, without elevator. Yes, no matter what kind of bike you have, you need to walk through and carry them to the upstairs.

It was worth to carry my heavy bike to upstairs. It was one of the coolest bike shops I’ve seen in the US. If you ever happen to visit New York, this is a must stop spot.

I’ve heard of Chari & Co. from while ago, when I was so into NJS bikes, this is one of the few bike shops in the US, carrying legit NJS frames and parts. Now here I am. To me it looks more like boutique shop rather than a bike shop. They carry nice, hi end track bikes and their own clothing, accessories as well. If you like hi end bikes and fashion, this is a ‘must stop’ spot in NY.
